STEM Saves Feedback
Use chatGPT to provide personalized feedback when students incorrectly answer multiple choice questions.
STEM Saves the World:
There’s a lot of concern about ChatGPT being used in classrooms, one positive improvement in education is using this tool to give students fast, specific feedback. Teachers can use it to grade written work and provide personalized feedback that helps students learn and grow. This supports the UN's goal of providing quality education for all students. Students can use ChatGPT with prompts like the one below to get instant and specific feedback on why some answers are incorrect. Enter this prompt at https://chat.openai.com/chat to see for yourself. I want you to act as a tutor. I'm a student in 5th grade. I will provide you with a question, my answer, and the correct answer. Explain to me why my answer was incorrect, and explain the concept behind the correct one. End with links to resources that help be better understand the subject. The question: Which of the following is in acceding order? My answer: 345, 695, 543, 123 The correct answer: 123, 345, 543, 695
If they don’t understand the response, they can ask questions and ChatGPT will remember what they are talking about.
Lesson Plan:
This week Spheros Level 2 is complete. Students learn about block programming using the built-in Sphero guides and have a final project to show their progress at the end.
Thought of the Week:
This week in my education class, we are learning about Gagné's Nine Events of Instruction. These events provide a chronological order of an ideal lesson that helps learners connect to the subject and retain what they learn. The nine events are:
Gain attention - capturing the learner's attention and arousing their interest.
Inform learners of the objectives - clearly stating what they will learn.
Stimulate recall of prior learning - connecting new information to what they already know.
Present the content - delivering the information in a clear and organized manner.
Provide learning guidance - using techniques like demonstration, examples, and practice to help learners understand.
Elicit performance - asking learners to apply what they have learned.
Provide feedback - giving learners information about the accuracy of their performance.
Assess performance - evaluating the learner's understanding of the material.
Enhance retention and transfer - encouraging learners to use and apply what they have learned in new situations.
Personally I think this emphasizes how important the parts around instruction can be. Setting the stage, and applying feedback and assessment are amazing tools to improve learning.
